Who is Kevin?
Kevin is a current Public Relations graduate student at Niagara College in Welland, Ont.
Before attending Niagara College, Kevin completed his Master of Arts (MA) in Sociology and a Bachelor of Arts: Honours (BA: Hons) in Criminology and Criminal Justice (Law) from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ont.
While not taking the traditional route into a career in public relations, Kevin is passionate about the role public relations plays in Canadian society. What does public relations mean to him? It’s about connecting with your audience.
With a particular interest in government relations, politics and the continuance of a free press, Kevin believes that a career in public relations is well suited towards his interests.
What about his education background?
A devoted student and a person who continually wants to learn, Kevin studied various issues over the course of his MA and BA (Hons.) degrees. These include studying issues facing Canadian police in the 21st century; drunk- and drug-impaired driving; race and racism; urban gentrification and neoliberal restructuring; the rise of the security state; and panoptic surveillance.
Kevin’s MA thesis, titled “Neoliberalism and School Security: The Use of Zero-Tolerance Policies and Black Student Exclusion in New York City and Toronto,” sought to explore systemic issues of race and racism within the Ontario education institution.

Kevin has held several different work experiences throughout his MA and BA (Hons.) degrees. He was a Teaching Assistant Coordinator, overseeing 11 Teaching Assistants and over 650 undergraduate students. He was a Community Advisor, overseeing over 3,500 Residence students at Carleton University. And he was a Summer Orientation Leader, developing marketing material and delivering presentations to incoming students and their parents.

Kevin is a current member of the Canadian Public Relations Society – Hamilton chapter.
He is an avid traveller. His most recent trips have been to My Tho, Viet Nam with Habitat for Humanity; Nicaragua; Ireland; New Orleans; and Banff, Alta.
Kevin enjoys public speaking. He coordinated and emcee’d a symposium on Issues Facing Policing in the 21st Century, was a guest speaker at Trent University’s Residence Conference, and was a guest speaker at Carleton University’s SOAR Leadership Conference.
Kevin has won various awards. These include the Knights of Columbus Humanitarian Award, the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Outstanding Community Engagement, the Claude Bissell and M.M. MacOdrum scholarships, and the recognition of High Distinction at his BA graduation.
